Role

In this role, the candidate will contribute as a IT Privacy Officer to the SMC Corporation assisting with the tasks and responsibilities associated with a global IT privacy program. The candidate will collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to perform data mapping, identify privacy risk, assess the security controls around privacy data, and address privacy compliance requirements. This role will be responsible for operational aspects of SMC Corporation’s privacy framework including conducting data mapping exercises, privacy impact assessments/data protection impact assessments, fulfilling consumer rights requests, and maintaining privacy technology platforms. The candidate should have knowledge of privacy concepts/governance, information security controls, privacy compliance requirements, and the ability to apply these concepts within their work environment. In terms of compliance, the Privacy Officer will assist with management of all ongoing activities related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of the practice/organization’s privacy policies in accordance with state, country, and regional laws.

Your Tasks

  • Ensure existing and new services comply with privacy and data security obligations, and the organization has and maintains the appropriate privacy policies, information, and notices
  • Coordinate with regulatory and accrediting bodies, external affairs, and government officials on privacy and data security issues
  • Maintain current working knowledge of global privacy laws and standards, information privacy technologies, and processing and/or database registration requirements
  • Work closely with business teams, senior management, corporate officers, and security peers in leadership and team support roles
  • Assist in planning, developing, and delivering privacy training materials and other communications to all employees, volunteers, contractors, alliances, business associates, and other appropriate third parties
  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to ensure compliance with privacy practices and policies, and consistent application of sanctions for failure to comply with those practices and policies
  • Assess, monitor, and review all facets of risk, compliance, and privacy frameworks and policies; lead in the planning, design and evaluation of privacy- and security-related projects and technologies
  • Develop and manage procedures for vetting and auditing vendors, and trading partner and business associate agreements for compliance with the privacy and data security policies and legal requirements
  • Help develop and apply corrective action procedures to avoid or mitigate effects of a use or disclosure of personal information by employees or business partners; recommend outside legal counsel when necessary

  • ISACA CRISC or equivalent (additional desired)
  • Previous experience using OneTrust (additional desired)


Your Profile

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Law, Management Information Systems, or Business Administration – equivalent experience considered
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in areas such as Privacy, Technology Governance, Risk, and Compliance
  • IAPP Certification such as CIPM, CIPP/U, CIPP/E
